A Baker's Dozen for the Goose Tower
Postcard from Mark Dion Object #1: Replication of Vasculum Object #1: Replication of Vasculum Object #1: Original Vasculum Object #1: Installation

In this collaboration with Mark Dion, I received a postcard with a description of an object of interest he found at a cultural museum in Denmark. Mark asked me to create a sculpture of the object from his description, without the aid of a picture, the material it was made of, or the name of the object. Only after posting the object to Denmark for the group exhibition, did I receive the photograph and name of the original object: a vasculum, a container used by botanists to keep field samples viable by maintaining a cool, humid environment.

Mark Dion commissioned me to paint a series of nine watercolors of marine life specimens. Each specimen was to be painted from life on a postcard. I was asked to provide an identification of each specimen on the back of the card and mail each one to the group exhibition in Germany as soon as it was finished.
